Beijing, China

Beijing, China’s massive capital, has a history stretching back 3 millennia. However, it is known as much for its modern architecture as its ancient sites such as the grand Forbidden City complex, the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nearby, the massive Tiananmen Square pedestrian plaza is site of Mao Zedong’s mausoleum and the National Museum of China, displaying a vast collection of cultural relics. Beijing is considered the political, educational and cultural center of the country and therefore is rich in historical sites and important government and cultural institutions.

If you are in Beijing and want to visit The Great Wall, i would highly recommend agreeing a taxi ride. You can bargain the price and get there in a very efficient way without wasting time. The best location to visit it if you only have a day is Moutianyu. If you enter from this side and walk around the wall for a couple of hours, you will experience a beautiful visit!

When in Beijing, do make sure that you visit the Lama Temple. It is one of my favourite places in China and it feels magical inside. I like visiting it around the sunset time as you can benefit from the change if light and experience this magical spot in the day and night times. It is highly recommended and it is one of the biggest budhist temples.
